Sergej Avanesov

Sergej Avanesov, born on 23 March 1994, in Russia. He started to play Tenor Saxophone when he was 9 years old. As a child he was inspired by musicians like:  John Coltrane, Joshua Redman, Dexter Gordon, Keith Jarrett and many others.


At 17-years-old, after graduating in Russia, Sergej had the opportunity to go to the Netherlands to continue his studies at Prince Clause Conservatoire. There he studied with Don Braden, Miguel Martinez. 


Sergej's performance highlights include a project with John Clayton and the Symphonic Orchestra, Idstein jazz festival in Germany, Mechelen, Belgium, Rostov-on-Don Jazz festival in Russia, Bimhuis in Amsterdam, Amphion jazz fest, Doetinchem and more. He has also played with Alex Sipiagin, Robin Eubanks, David Berkman, Gene Jakson.

Sergej is also a bandleader of his own quartet and trio in New York City, playing original music and jazz standards.
